Researchers have developed gold nanoparticles capable of binding to viruses and causing irreversible viral deformation, presenting a promising path towards a broad-spectrum antiviral.
While drugs can be used against specific viruses, there is currently no broad-spectrum treatment effective against several viral diseases. A broader approach is of particular need in developing regions where there might not be the resources to produce an accurate diagnosis.
