The microbiome has become a much talked-about topic in recent years, with implications in many conditions. Infectious diseases are no exception, and in light of this we spoke to Sergio Serrano-Villar, author of Future Microbiology’s top-read article of 2017 entitled: ‘How can the gut microbiota affect immune recovery in HIV infected individuals?’.
Sergio Serrano-Villar is a Medical Doctor specialized in infectious diseases. He coordinates a monographic multidisciplinary clinic for the management of HIV-infected patients and a monographic HIV/HPV clinic at Hospital Ramón y Cajal in Madrid (Spain). He is also involved in academic activities as Assistant Clinical Professor of Infectious Diseases at Universidad de Alcalá of Madrid.
