New estimates for England suggest 20% of antibiotic prescribing is inappropriate

Recent research by Public Health England estimates that over 20% of all antibiotic prescriptions written in England primary care centers could be avoided.

This data – published as 5 articles in a supplement to the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy – suggests that antibiotic prescriptions should be reduced by 10% by 2020 in order to reach the national ambition of cutting levels of inappropriate prescribing by half.
