Are shortages of NHS staff promoting the transmission of resistant infections?

The charity Antibiotic Research UK (ANTRUK) has claimed that understaffed, over-occupied hospitals could make the transmission of antibiotic-resistant infections easier.

A bad flu season has precipitated a shortage of beds and a shortage of staff in hospitals across the UK, with ANTRUK stating that over-occupancy might make the transmission of bacteria easier. In addition, they have raised concerns that staff shortages could lead to slipping standards of cleanliness and hygiene as staff are simply too busy.
