Preventive use of azithromycin shown to decrease child mortality in sub-Saharan Africa

The results of a large-scale field trial termed MORDOR (Macrolides Oraux pour Réduire les Décès avec un Oeil sur la Résistance) demonstrates the dual action of the drug azithromycin (Zithromax™) in children under 5 years of age. The findings could help speed progress toward the United Nations’ goal of ending preventable child deaths by 2030.
