Researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC; GA, USA) and the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KY, USA) have used whole-genome sequencing to demonstrate that carbapenem-resistant can be transferred among unrelated species of bacteria via plasmids or other mobile genetic elements. The research will be presented at ASM Microbe, the annual meeting of the American Society for Microbiology, being hosted in Atlanta (7–11 June, GA, USA).
