ASM Microbe: Influenza treatment delayed by false negative rapid test results, new study suggests

New research has indicated that false negative rapid influenza antigen test (RIAT) results could lead to delayed antiviral treatment in severe influenza cases. Presented at ASM Microbe in Atlanta (GA, USA, 7–11 June 2018), these data highlight the need for more thorough testing in point-of-care settings, with the authors advocating the combined use of RIAT and lower respiratory tract (LRT) sample testing.
