Researchers have demonstrated the first citywide deployment of deployment Wolbachia, leading to protection from Aedes-transmitted arboviruses – specifically dengue – as a result.

A number of new interventions for the control of disease-carrying mosquitoes require the release of modified mosquitoes into the environment; however, thus far none of these technologies have been scaled up beyond small pilots.
