Can the human microbiome influence rotavirus vaccine response?

In a proof-of-concept study, recently published in the journal Cell Host & Microbe, Dutch scientists demonstrate that microbiome manipulation can potentially influence the response to oral rotavirus vaccine.

Researchers demonstrated that manipulation of the microbiome with antibiotics prior to vaccination increased the levels of viral shedding compared with controls receiving no antibiotic treatment.
