Oral cholera vaccination to be administered to 1.4 million in Zimbabwe’s capital

The Government of Zimbabwe have enlisted the help of the WHO and partners such as Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, to initiate an oral cholera vaccination (OCV) campaign. The goal is to vaccinate 1.4 million people deemed highly at risk of being infected across Harare.

This comes in response to a recent report from the health authorities of an outbreak of cholera, on 6 September 2018. The campaign is in addition to measures already in place to upscale control, including improved sanitation through hygiene promotion and provision of safe water, enhanced surveillance and monitoring, adequate drainage of pipes and introducing committed treatment centers.
