Freeze-dried polio vaccine could avoid cold chain issues

Researchers from the University of Southern California (CA, USA) have developed a freeze-dried polio vaccine that doesn’t require refrigeration, potentially avoiding issues in reaching remote cases and aiding in the elimination of this disease.

Just 22 polio cases were reported worldwide in 2017; however, one of the challenges facing global eradication has been creating a temperature-stable vaccine for use in resource-limited environments where refrigeration may be unavailable.
