Novel genetic tool allows for accurate measures of latent HIV reservoirs within cells

A novel genetic technique capable of accurately determining counts of hard-to-find, latent HIV has been developed. The findings from the team at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (MD, US) were published in Nature.

This advancing technology is a vital step for HIV research as persistent, latent forms of HIV can hide within host cell genomes and consistently prove to be the hardest form to target and destroy with therapeutics.
