Researchers in Brazil have identified a new parasite, which is similar to visceral leishmaniasis. Using molecular phylogenetics, the team from University Hospital in Aracaju have started to uncover its identity.
Researchers from University Hospital in Aracaju (Sergipe, Brazil) have potentially uncovered a new species of parasite, similar to visceral leishmaniasis, but does not respond to currently available treatments. The research, recently published in Emerging Infectious Diseases, was supported by Sao Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP).
